By Nancy Lytle,MyNewsOK Contributor Heavy bomber crewmen in World War II survived an average 16 bombing missions. Jack Myers, author of "Shot at And Missed: Recollections of a World War II Bombardier," survived 35 missions before being honorably discharged in 1945.

Myers will relate his experiences as a B-17 bombardier at 2 p.m. today at Belle Isle Library, 5501 N Villa Ave. The author, who lives in Arcadia, was stationed in an air base in just inside the spur Italy.

Myers will give an account of the tense atmosphere he and his crew mates experienced flying missions over Germany. He also will recount how the men clowned around with one another and romanced Italian women after hours.

Books will be available to purchase for author signings after the program.
