I was living in Paris, Ark. I was in the 89th Division. We joined the battle in Germany. The first major battle was the Mosel River. Then we headed for the Rhine. We wound up on the Czech border. I was a squad leader … 12-man squads.
Some of it you don’t care to really talk about. In crossing the Rhine, I lost 10 of my men, and it was pretty bad. I thank the Lord every day that I survived through the ordeal. The Lord was good to me.
The last one (in my squad) was living in L.A. That is the last person I knew anything about. He was older than I was. Before he went in, he was a cook in some motel. He made it back too. Me and him used to talk once in a while.
I saw some of the World War II Series.
If you watch too much it brings back memories. It brings back memories of your buddies.
