Survivors, family members and others will celebrate the end of a 66-year wait for a USS Oklahoma Memorial with a full day of ceremonies and memorials Friday in Hawaii.
The day will begin with the official Pearl Harbor Day commemoration organized by the U.S. Navy and National Park Service. That ceremony will begin a 7:40 a.m. local time, on Kilo Pier at Naval Station Pearl Harbor.
The USS Oklahoma Memorial dedication will be at noon at the memorial site on Ford Island. Immediately after the ceremony, the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island will host a reception.
Survivors and family members of the USS Oklahoma crew will host a candlelight memorial dinner from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki in Honolulu.
