In extraordinary times, there are no ordinary lives
Oklahoma teachers and students, it is your turn to become oral historians and documentary filmmakers in your community and record interviews with veterans from World War II.
Submit these student-created stories to OETA and they will become part of the Oklahoma World War II Story Collection Project.
• Some of these student-created stories will air statewide on OETA television.
• All of these student-created stories will become part of a national PBS database and will be highlighted on this Oklahoma World War II Story Collection web site.
• Many of these student-created stories will become part of a special exhibit displayed around the state.
• These stories will be permanently archived at the Oklahoma History Center for future generations.
The power of story
OETA has launched the Oklahoma World War II Story Collection Project, an aggressive, statewide outreach effort to collect, preserve and share the personal stories from Oklahomans who served on the frontlines and maintained the home front.
The time is now! Oklahoma sent more than 268,000 of its own onto the battlefields during World War II. These brave men and women valiantly battled against the tyranny threatening the world. An estimated 1,500 members of this “Greatest Generation” are dying each day, taking many of their invaluable experiences with them.
Thousands of veterans are still with us and students can engage in a unique learning experience and by helping collect their stories using digital technology.
Get involved
OETA will be collecting these student-created stories through April 15, 2007. Participation is simple. Here is the information you need:
